Simply double click on the clock and make sure the date is the correct date, then go back into to Outlook and try the newsgroup messages. Ran into this a few times lately, here is a rundown on what happens when, for instance, a mac customer sends a file in one format, we will just say for example the file ends in extension .doc. After attaching this file to an email, the mac user then sends it to a windows user. The windows user finds that the file is now named .doc.hqx. This is actually a very simple issue. The .hqx has been appended to the file as it has gone cross platform and needs to be extracted properly to be viewed correctly on the receivers end. The person who receives the file with the .hqx appended to it simply needs a BINHEX decoder program to properly extract and be able to view the file. There are several programs available at both www.download.com and www.tucows.com that will suffice. Aladdin Expander and TransMac are two popular programs that will get the job done. This will also occur if the situation is reversed and the file is going from windows -> Mac.
Below is a technical definition of hqx in case some of you want a little more background on the file type :
hqx (also known as a BinHex file) is a binary file that has been encoded so that it uses only valid ASCII characters (i.e., hex 00 to hex 7F)
If you have to send large e-mails and attachments go to this site. http://www.whalemail.com
IF you are having problems getting email and/or browsing and you have McAfee Personal Firewall do this: just right clicking the system tray icon for the McAfee Personal Firewall and selecting "allow all". And then contact McAfee about getting it properly set up with your ISP.
Ran into a problem with OE not starting, and giving an error that it can not start and may be installed incorrectly or there may not be insufficient memory to run the program. Previously this has driven me up the wall with fixing this, going into the repair tool under add/remove and if that didn't work killing some ini's and the inbox and the other items suggested in the Knowledge base. The fix that I discovered is quick and painless so far
Go to MY COMPUTER check and make sure there is indeed enough Hard Drive Space. Check RAM and system resources to verify system standing. If all is good go to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\ run Setup50.exe by double clicking it. If an error message comes up, click ok.
Restart the computer. OE (Outlook Express) will now run just fine, verify that the version is correct after it opens.
